Lucknow: Niraj Kumar Waribam netted four goals to help the Indian Army hand GST and Central Excise a crushing 8-2 defeat in a league tie of the All-India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Men’s Hockey Tournament at the Mohd Shahid Stadium on Tuesday.GST and Central Excise drew first blood with a field goal by Pitchaimani in the 15th minute. Eight minutes later, Ritendra found the back of the net to give the Indian Army an equaliser. After that, it was all Niraj Kumar, who scored four goals in the 27th, 43rd, 46th, and 51st minutes. Rohit Irengbam also scored a brace (45th and 49th minutes), while Tushar Parmar chipped in with a goal in the 53rd minute. GST’s Abishek managed a consolation goal in the final minute as the Indian Army completed an 8-2 rout. In the day’s second match, the Indian Air Force (IAF) secured a 5-2 win against Combine Hostel UP (CUP). The IAF took an early lead with goals from Dilip Pal (4th minute) and Ajit Pandit (5th minute). Love Deep Singh and Sumit extended the lead with goals in the 26th and 27th minutes, respectively. CUP attempted a comeback with two goals from Mohammad Aqib Raynee (29th and 39th minutes), narrowing the gap to 4-2. However, IAF’s Sagar Shingade sealed the victory with a field goal, ensuring a comfortable win for his team.
