Grassroot monitoring of govt plans a must: MLA

Lucknow: Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh wrote to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with a proposal to organise Assembly-level review meetings of central and state govt welfare schemes, coupled with direct beneficiary interactions. Singh’s initiative aims to enhance transparency, accountability and public trust in govt programmes.Singh emphasised that schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana, Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, Kanya Sumangala Yojana, scholarships and pension schemes are directly benefiting farmers, the poor, women, students, and marginalised groups. To make these programmes more effective, Singh said that direct dialogue with beneficiaries is essential. The proposal outlines three key measures: beneficiary meetings should be held in every Assembly constituency with participation from district and block-level officials. Meetings should be presided over by the minister in charge, with the Chief Minister’s message delivered through video conferencing or a pre-recorded address. Concerns raised by beneficiaries should be resolved on the spot to ensure quick redressal.Singh stressed that such a system would not only empower beneficiaries but also create a stronger bridge between citizens and the administration. “People’s participation is the key to making schemes more effective,” he wrote, underscoring the importance of grassroots involvement in governance. If implemented, Singh believes the initiative could set a benchmark for participatory governance across Uttar Pradesh, positioning the state as a model of transparency and citizen-centric administration.
