Woman receives 17 stitches in attack by pack of dogs | Lucknow News
Kanpur: A 21-year-old BBA student was attacked by a pack of stray dogs while returning home from college. They knocked her to the ground and tore the flesh from her cheek. The incident took place on Aug 20, but came to light on Saturday.Hearing her screams, nearby people chased the dogs away with sticks. She received 17 stitches on her cheek and nose. Ashutosh Sahu, a resident of Shyam Nagar, said that his niece, Vaishnavi Sahu, is a final-year BBA student at a private college in Ruma. On August 20, she was returning home from college. Near Madhuban Park, a group of monkeys and dogs were fighting.As Vaishnavi was passing by, the pack of dogs attacked her. They knocked her to the ground and mauled her face. Hearing her cries, people rushed with sticks and chased the dogs away.Afterward, the badly injured student was taken to Kanshiram Hospital and then referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. At present, she is receiving treatment at a private hospital.Family members reported that Vaishnavi is unable to eat anything. “Her wound is so deep that she can’t even open her mouth. Doctors have advised giving her liquids,” they said. The family also mentioned that packs of stray dogs roam the area and chase passers-by.“Authorities should take action against these stray dogs immediately. They should be sterilised to control their population and kept in shelters. They should be completely removed from residential areas. If it was a small child, only God knows what these dogs would have done,” the family said.City mayor Pramila Pandey said that soon the KMC would start capturing stray dogs again according to the Supreme Court’s fresh guidelines. “We will hold a meeting with Municipal Corporation officers soon to formulate a strategy regarding this.”
