Vascular procedure saves man’s leg from amputation | Lucknow News

Lucknow: A 55-year-old man from Azamgarh, who was on the verge of losing his leg due to blocked arteries, recovered fully after undergoing an emergency vascular procedure at a private hospital in Lucknow.The patient arrived with severe pain, weakness, black discolouration, and loss of movement in his left foot. Tests revealed complete blockage in two major arteries—one near the hip and another behind the knee— cutting off blood supply to the leg. Doctors said any further delay could have led to amputation. Dr Shahbaz Mohd Khan, associate director, interventional radiology at Max Super Specialty, said: “The patient came with critical arterial blockages. We chose a minimally invasive approach involving catheter-directed thrombolysis, stenting and mechanical thrombectomy. Blood flow was restored immediately, and he regained movement in his foot.” Dr Swish Kumar Singh, senior consultant, radiology, said: “In acute limb ischemia, every hour counts. Delay beyond eight hours increases the risk of amputation by up to 80%. Minimally invasive methods allow faster recovery and save limbs without open surgery.”
