UPSECC chief named as member of central energy advisory body

Lucknow: In a boost for electricity consumer advocacy, Avadhesh Kumar Verma, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council (UPSECC), has been nominated as a member of the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).The appointment was officially confirmed through a notification issued by the Govt of India. The CAC, established under Section 80 of the Electricity Act, 2003, is the country’s highest constitutional body in energy sector. The 28-member committee brings together prominent representatives from commerce, industry, transport, agriculture, labour, and consumer interest groups.It includes top executives such as the CMDs of NTPC, NHPC, Power Grid, PTC India, and Solar Energy Corporation of India; senior leaders from Tata Power and Adani Transmission; as well as nominees from FICCI, IIT Delhi, IIM-Ahmedabad, and Indian Railways.Reacting to the nomination, the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council said that Verma’s inclusion will strengthen the voice of consumers not only in Uttar Pradesh but across the country. Pledging active participation in policy formulation and regulatory matters, Verma said, “We will work to ensure justice and fair representation for electricity consumers at the national level. He thanked to CERC and the Govt of India for the faith reposed in him.
