UP govt pushes for economic prosperity of farmers through procurement, direct payments | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The UP govt said on Saturday that it places a special emphasis on the “economic prosperity” of farmers. “On one hand, the state govt is providing all facilities by establishing 4,645 procurement centres for the sale of paddy at the minimum support price, on the other it is also sending money directly to farmers’ accounts through DBT,” a state govt spokesperson said.The govt said that 19.14 lakh metric tons of paddy was procured from over 3.15 lakh farmers in the current kharif marketing season. In return, farmers were paid over Rs 4,500 crore. Furthermore, over 35,000 millet farmers were paid Rs 421.39 crore.In the kharif marketing year 2024-25, as of Dec 13, 6.7 lakh farmers registered for paddy sales, while in 2025-26, this figure has reached over 7.83 lakh so far. Last year, 21,630 farmers registered for millet sales by this time, which has increased to over 80,000 this year.According to the food and civil supplies department, chief minister Yogi Adityanath is holding regular review meetings regarding paddy sales, payments to farmers and procurement centre arrangements. Till Saturday, 19.14 lakh metric tons of paddy was procured from 3.15 lakh farmers. In return, UP farmers were paid Rs 4,541.94 crore. A total of 4,645 procurement centres have been established so far.Paddy procurement will continue until Jan 31 in western UP and until Feb 28 in eastern UP. Likewise, millet procurement began on Oct 1 and will continue until Dec 31. Millet is being procured in 33 districts, maize in 25 districts and sorghum in 11 districts.
