UP fire dept receives FSAI award for exemplary service at Maha Kumbh

Lucknow: The UP fire and emergency services department has been conferred with the Bravery and Superhero of Fire Services Award by the Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) for its outstanding service during Maha Kumbh 2025. The award was presented at a programme held in New Delhi, recognising the department’s exemplary service and flawless safety record.ADG (Fire) Padmaja Chauhan said, “Under the guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath, the department swiftly controlled even the most serious fire incidents and successfully achieved the target of zero casualties during the entire 45-day event. During this period, the department handled 185 fire incidents and 24 major fires, saving property worth approximately Rs 16.5 crore.” A total of 54 fire stations, 27 outposts, 1,500 trained personnel, and 351 fire tenders were deployed, supported by modern tools including water towers, firefighting robots, quick-response vehicles, mist bikes, ATVs, and boats, she said. Key officials felicitated alongside the ADG included Pramod Sharma (nodal officer, Mahakumbh Mela), Ankush Mittal (CFO), Ramesh Tiwari (CFO), Sanjeev Kumar (fire officer), and Amit Kumar (second fire officer). Earlier, Goa CM Pramod Sawant also lauded the UP fire department’s preparedness, noting that its ‘war-level’ planning had set a benchmark for large-scale event safety in India. Despite the arrival of over 66.5 crore devotees at Maha Kumbh 2025, the department fulfilled the state govt’s pledge of a “Safe Maha Kumbh,” a feat now being recognised both nationally and internationally.
