UP ensures clean and safe Chhath | Lucknow News
Lucknow: To ensure a clean and safe environment for devotees during the Chhath festival, urban local bodies (ULBs) across UP undertook extensive cleanliness and safety measures under Mission Shakti 5.0 with a focus on women’s empowerment.The initiative was carried out under the supervision of urban development and energy minister AK Sharma. According to official data, 1,116 ghats across the state were identified and equipped with sanitation and public utility facilities. A total of 39,050 sanitation workers and 1,366 vehicles were deployed for waste management. For the convenience of women devotees, 1,553 changing rooms and 319 mobile toilets were installed.The cleanliness campaign saw participation from 89 NGOs, 4,518 volunteers and over 18.3 lakh devotees who joined cleanliness drives organized by ULBs. During the campaign, 33,277 kg of waste were collected, of which 28,525 kg was scientifically disposed of. Additionally, 381 kg of plastic was seized and fines totaling Rs 29,800 were imposed for violations related to single-use plastic.Meanwhile, a total of 9,174 permanent and 28,747 temporary lights were installed along with 496 public address systems, 1,077 offering pots (Arpan Kalash) and 881 toll-free help boards to assist devotees. Women’s help desks, staffed by female personnel and volunteers, provided guidance to women worshippers. The minister commended officers, sanitation workers, volunteers and citizens for cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring smooth arrangements.
