Lucknow: Welcoming INDIA bloc vice-presidential pick retired supreme court judge V Sudarshan Reddy at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow on Tuesday, party national president Akhilesh Yadav expressed hope that the members of Parliament who believe in justice will follow their conscience and vote in favour of him. “The present political circumstances in which the election for vice-president is being held, there could not have been a choice better than a (retired) Justice to complement our fight and struggle for justice,” Akhilesh said. “I am hopeful that those who believe in justice will follow their inner conscience and vote and support our candidate,” he said. In his short and crisp address, Akhilesh accused the BJP of attempting to shackle the post of Vice-President of India to a “particular ideology”. This was in apparent reference to the fact that BJP-led NDA candidate and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been an RSS functionary. “This is not in the interest of the country,” Akhilesh said. Party general secretary Shivpal Yadav and party secretary Rajendra Chaudhary were present at the press conference along with senior Congress leader Promod Tewari and UPCC chief Ajay Rai.
