State election commission publishes updated panchayat electoral roll | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The State Election Commission (SEC) of Uttar Pradesh has announced the provisional publication of the comprehensively updated electoral roll ahead of the three-tier panchayat elections.Prior to the revision, the base voter roll stood at 12,29,50,052 electors. Following the intensive update, the total has risen to 12,69,69,610—a net increase of 40,19,558 voters, representing a 3.27% growth. This thorough revision was designed to enhance the accuracy and inclusivity of the voter database statewide. The process involved three key activities: additions, modifications and deletions. Over 1,81,96,367 new voters were enrolled (14.8% of the original roll), 21,08,601 entries were updated for accuracy and 1,41,76,809 names were removed (11.53% of the prior list). Deletions mainly addressed cases of death, migration and duplicate registrations. Technology played a pivotal role, with the e-BLO App processing the majority of changes: 72.12% of additions (1,31,22,867), 78.07% of modifications (16,46,232), and 51.09% of deletions (72,42,565). Contributions from vendor-assisted efforts and online applications further streamlined operations.A major focus was eliminating duplicate entries. The SEC identified 90,76,015 potential duplicates, leading to verification of 2,27,33,769 records. Ultimately, 53,67,410 duplicate voters were deleted—accounting for about 39% of total removals.Speaking to TOI, Raj Pratap Singh, state election commissioner, said, “The provisional list is now available for public review. The final electoral list will be published by Feb 6.”
