Lucknow: What started as an attempt to sell an old sofa for Rs 14,000 turned into a nightmare for a Gomtinagar resident, who ended up losing nearly Rs 2 lakh to an online scammer. Ram Mohan Yadav, 40, listed his sofa on a sale and purchase site, quoting Rs 14,000. A man agreed to the price and told him he would transfer the money through a QR code, Yadav said in FIR. Believing the buyer’s instructions, Yadav scanned the QR code that arrived on his phone. But instead of receiving money, Rs 99,665 was debited from his account twice. TNN
