Lucknow: Six people were arrested after a restaurant operating close to the UPPWD headquarters in Hazratganj was found to be serving alcohol without a valid licence.An FIR was registered against the management and staff members who were found serving liquor to the patrons. Although the bar section of the restaurant was sealed and more than 100 liquor bottles and beer cans were confiscated, the restaurant would continue to operate. Officials said that a report against the restaurant would be submitted to the district administration for further action. The raid, carried out jointly by the excise department and police, commenced late on Monday night. While posing as customers, the excise department staff members realised that alcohol was being served as per the bar menu. Lucknow excise officer Karunendra Singh said, “The restaurant management used to obtain a temporary license for three to four days a week. But we got to know that the liquor was being served throughout the week.” In a separate crackdown, an FIR against the owner and a staffof a composite shop was registered following a raid. Liquor bottles of various brands and categories were found on the premises. However, on scanning the liquor bottles, the excise department found that the stock was procured in an illegal manner.
