Lucknow: Strengthening rural health infrastructure has been identified as a top priority, said Vijay Vishwas Pant during a press meeting held on Saturday. The statement came on his first day of assuming charge as the new divisional commissioner of Lucknow. Pant underlined the urgent need for upgrading rural healthcare facilities to ensure that better medical services reach even the most remote parts of the division. He assured that dedicated efforts would be made to improve both infrastructure and accessibility for the rural population.“We will focus on bridging the gap between urban and rural healthcare. Every citizen, irrespective of where they live, should have access to timely and quality medical services. Strengthening health facilities in villages is not just an administrative task, it’s a responsibility,” Pant said.The commissioner drew attention to traffic congestion in the state capital, calling it one of the pressing issues that needs immediate attention. “Traffic is one of the major challenges for Lucknow. We will work closely with the administration and police to bring in effective measures so that movement on city roads becomes smoother and more disciplined,” he added. Apart from healthcare and traffic, Pant stressed the importance of environmental conservation, particularly the condition of the Gomti river, which he described as the lifeline of Lucknow. He said a comprehensive action plan would soon be drawn up with the cooperation of all concerned departments and active involvement of civil society. “The Gomti is central to the identity and survival of this city. Cleaning and rejuvenating it is a collective responsibility, and we will ensure strict monitoring and coordinated action to make the river clean and free flowing again,” Pant said.By placing rural healthcare, traffic management and river rejuvenation on his agenda, Pant signalled that his focus will be on issues that directly affect daily life and long-term sustainability in the division.
