‘River that’s also a living truth’

Describing Gomti as a living presence rather than just a water body, filmmaker and environmental advocate Deepika Chaturvedi spoke about the strong emotional, cultural, and social bond people share with the river, even as awareness about its history and significance remains limited.Speaking at ‘Gomti Samvad’ at Metaphor Litfest, she pointed out that despite flowing for nearly 960km and shaping the life of Lucknow, Gomti is often taken for granted.Addressing questions on wh y the river became central to her work, Deepika said it was not a planned choice but a natural journey that began with her 2018 documentary ‘Gomti Udgam’, which traced the river’s origin.
