Pulmonary rehab training must for KGMU physio students

Lucknow: Physiotherapy students at King George’s Medical University will now undergo two weeks of compulsory training in pulmonary rehabilitation, said Vice Chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand during World Physiotherapy Day celebrations at the respiratory medicine department. She inaugurated the event and said pulmonary rehabilitation was vital part of learning physiotherapy. She appreciated pulmonary rehabilitation centre’s work in the department, adding that even NAAC inspection team had praised the facility.Dean of paramedical sciences, Dr K K Singh, said the official order regarding training would be issued soon. “Without pulmonary physiotherapy, the course remains incomplete,” he stressed.A senior faculty member informed that respiratory medicine department housed state’s first PRC, where lung patients were given free physiotherapy to improve breathing capacity and daily functioning. More than 2,000 patients have already benefited from free treatment, available both offline and online. He added, “Na parcha, na charcha, na kharcha — free services are available at the department.”Co-in charge of PRC, Dr Ankit Kumar, said that during training, physiotherapy students would be learning key exercises to strengthen lung function in patients. Experts from Ram Manohar Lohia Institute also shared insights. Dr Ajay Kumar Verma spoke on role of pulmonary health in healthy living, while Dr Poonam Tiwari highlighted importance of nutrition. Over 200 doctors, physiotherapists and students participated in the event.
