Lucknow: A noted voice of the Bhojpuri music Shyama Yadav is no more. He passed away at a hospital in Gomtinagar on Sunday night. He was 70. He was the co-singer and long-time musical companion of the folk songs icon late Baleshwar. Born in Sitapur district, Yadav carved out a niche not as a frontman but as the voice that lent depth and rhythm to Baleshwar’s compositions. His name became inseparable from the maestro’s — the two were popularly known as Shyama-Balesar. Baleshwar himself often acknowledged, “Since Shyama’s name entered my songs, success multiplied.” Yadav worked with the Geological Survey of India, balancing his professional career with an enduring passion for music. He is survived by his wife, four sons and grandchildren. tnn
