No deduction from cops’ pay for festivity on Janmashtami: DGP | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Sunday issued a set of directives to ensure that the upcoming Krishna Janmashtami festival is observed with “decorum, dignity, and traditional enthusiasm”. The circular, addressed to all police commissioners, district police chiefs, railway police superintendents, and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion commanders, explicitly prohibits the collection of donations from the public and forbids any compulsory deductions from the salary of police personnel for celebrations. “While Janmashtami has long been celebrated within the police department with joy and devotion, the celebrations must remain within the bounds of tradition and propriety. Apart from maintaining law and order during the festival, officers should ensure that all events uphold the values of cultural respect and public decency,” the DGP said. Krishna said that under no circumstances should funds be solicited from the public for organising Janmashtami events. “No compulsory financial contribution should be taken from police personnel’s salaries for festival arrangements. Any form of inappropriate dance, vulgar dialogue, or obscene act is strictly prohibited during the festivities,” he said. Krishna elaborated that to prevent violations, police commissioners, district in-charges, and PAC battalion commanders should review the planned cultural and entertainment programmes in advance. “The officers must ensure at every level that no indecent or obscene act or dialogue takes place,” he said. The DGP also directed ADGs, IGs, DIGs to ensure compliance of instructions.
