Mirzapur’s waterstory wins applause

Lucknow: Mirzapur’s victory in the National Water Awards stands out due to the years of water crisis that the district has faced as part of Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions.Mirzapur used to face frequent droughts, declining groundwater levels and dry hand pumps during summers. In Feb 2024, the state govt initiated a special rainwater harvesting campaign there.A govt spokesperson said the Lohandi river, covering distance of 15-km from Barkachha Khurd to its confluence with the Ganga at Rajapur, has been rejuvenated. The river passes through 11 gram panchayats and work on 10.63 km was carried out under MGNREGA. tnn
