Manager, teacher arrested after school ‘forces’ students to write religious during slogan contest

Lucknow: A major controversy erupted in Banvirpur village of Mahmoodabad area in Sitapur after parents accused a school management of forcing Hindu students to write “I Love Mohammad” on slogan charts during a competition. The incident triggered protests from parents, leading to police intervention and the arrest of a woman teacher and the manager of Amar Bapu Shiksha Niketan, a private school with nearly 1,000 students up to Class 12. On Saturday, during a slogan-writing competition, the school manager, identified as Naeemuddin alias Hinnu—also the village head of Sadarpur—and his brother Sumiyuddin allegedly directed principal Santosh Kumar and a woman teacher (name not identified) to make Class 3 and 5 students write the religious slogan. After returning home, children shared the incident with their families, sparking outrage. Dozens of parents rushed to the school, accused the management of religious indoctrination, and created a ruckus. Police from Mahmoodabad station soon reached the spot, recorded statements of parents and children, and seized the charts as evidence.Following complaints, police arrested manager Naeemuddin and teacher Kumari Sahiba even as the principal Santosh Kumar fled, said Additional SP, Sitapur, NP Singh. SHO Rajesh Kumar said a probe has been launched and strict action will follow against others involved.Parents, including Akhilesh Kumar Awasthi, Sushil Kumar, Gyanendra Kumar, and Pramod Kumar, alleged that Naeemuddin’s family has a criminal background and links with extremist organisations. They claimed Naeemuddin’s brother, Mohanuddin, was earlier involved in making crude bombs and died in an accidental explosion while their father was injured. Parents demanded that all those responsible for attempting to spread religious fanaticism through the school be jailed.
