Man, son shot in Sitapur over old rivalry

Lucknow: A man and his son were shot dead in Sitapur on Friday night, allegedly due to an old enmity.Chhote Khan alias Akhtar, 65, and his son Maisar Khan, 45, were rushed to the district hospital but doctors declared them dead on arrival.Police said the killings were the result of an old rivalry between Akhtar and Ramu, a fellow villager. Tensions escalated on Thursday when the two sides clashed over a land dispute. Police booked both sides for breach of peace and sent them to jail.On Friday, Akhtar, Maisar, and Ramu were released on bail from the SDM court and were returning to their village. But as they neared Fatepur, the dispute flared up again. Police said a fresh argument quickly turned violent.During the clash, Ramu allegedly attacked the father-son duo with a sharp-edged weapon. Soon after, several associates from Ramu’s side reached the spot. Ramu then pulled out a firearm and shot Akhtar at point-blank range, killing him on the spot. When Maisar tried to flee, he was chased for nearly 20 metres before being shot dead as well. The accused are absconding.
