LDA begins work on ‘Urmila Van’ along Kukrail river | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has begun developing ‘Urmila Van’ in Bhikhampur area of Papermill Ward, along the Kukrail river. The project was inaugurated on Monday by Lucknow (East) MLA OP Srivastava, who planted saplings to mark the launch of the initiative. Spread across 24 acres of land that was earlier cleared of garbage, waste, and encroachments, the site will dedicate 19 acres to green cover with nearly one lakh plants. Trees such as neem, peepal, pakkad, amaltas, arjun, ashok, jamun, bamboo, and gulmohar will be planted to enhance air quality, biodiversity, and ecological balance.OP Srivastava said the project will serve as an important step toward creating healthier surroundings for city residents. A 1,632-metre walking track is also planned to encourage open-air exercise and recreation.“This forest will act as the lungs of the local area. Citizens should support the effort as they supported cleanliness campaigns, so that future generations can enjoy cleaner air and greener spaces,” he added.Senior LDA officials, including secretary Vivek Srivastava, additional secretary CP Tripathi, chief engineer Navneet Sharma, and superintending engineer Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, along with local councillor Rajesh Singh, were present at the event.According to the LDA officials, irrigation arrangements will be set up through an underground pipeline network across the forest area.
