KGMU screens 41 villagers for cancer through mobile unit | Lucknow News
Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) organised a cancer screening camp at village Patauna through its mobile cancer unit under the guidance of the vice-chancellor. The initiative aims to spread awareness that early detection of cancer increases the chances of successful treatment and reduces the cost of care. According to Prof Sudhir Singh from the department of radiotherapy, a total of 41 people were examined at the camp. Facilities for pap smear tests were available for women and four such tests were conducted. Chest X-rays were performed on 16 individuals, and blood tests were done for all participants to help detect conditions such as anaemia and blood cancer. A young man who came with a lipoma received medical clarification and expressed relief after learning it was not cancer. He admitted that fear of cancer kept him from seeking consultation earlier, but after the check-up, he felt reassured and confident.Awareness sessions using audio-visual aids were also organised to educate villagers about cancer. The medical team included Dr Preeti Rani, Dr Parul Bauddh, Dr Abhishek, Dr Rashid, and Dr Vinod Patel. The camp was coordinated by Rajendra Kumar Maurya and Nirmal Kumar.
