KGMU jumps from 19th to 8th; PGI 5th | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Lucknow’s two premier medical institutions, SGPGIMS and KGMU, have climbed up in the NIRF for medical institutes. While SGPGIMS rose from 6th to 5th place with a score of 70.9, KGMU jumped from 19th to 8th rank with score of 68.77. Three institutions from Uttar Pradesh—SGPGIMS, KGMU, and Institute of Medical Sciences-BHU—improved their ranks this year, while Aligarh Muslim University slipped. The ranking is based on scores on 17 parameters.SGPGIMS achieved full marks in key areas such as faculty-student ratio, university examinations, and facilities for physically challenged. It also improved scores in student strength, faculty qualification, patents, higher studies outcomes, median salary, women diversity, and perception, which recorded the largest gain. KGMU score improved from 61.95. Last year, its ranking had dipped due to fewer undergraduate seats, weaker placements, and lower spending on academic infrastructure despite an increase in research projects. This year, the university excelled in graduation outcomes, university examinations, and placements, achieving full marks in faculty-student ratio and near-perfect scores in student strength and faculty qualification. Financial resources remained relatively low, research performance was stable, and outreach was strong in women diversity and support for physically challenged students, though regional diversity lagged. Perception was the lowest-scoring parameter.IMS-BHU improved to 6th place with a score of 70.05, reflecting strong performance in teaching, research, and graduation outcomes, while support for economically and socially challenged students remained limited. AMU fell to 29th place with 58.82 score. It performed well in teaching and placements but trailing in research, financial resources, and support for underrepresented students. Overall, IMS BHU showed steady growth, whereas AMU needs improvement in research and inclusivity.KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand congratulated the university community for teamwork. “I thank Governor Anandiben Patel and CM Yogi Adityanath for their guidance because of which we could achieve it.” Director Prof SN Sankhwar said, “We aim to continue this momentum and further enhance our national standing.”
