Intermittent rainfall leads to waterlogging, vehicles crawl as many roads submerged

Lucknow: Intermittent rain lashed the city on Monday, leading to heavy waterlogging in areas like Hazratganj, Gomtinagar, Aliganj, Aashiana, Faizullaganj and various parts of the Old City.Traffic crawled on the roads, leading to major jams on Ayodhya Road, Daliganj railway underpass, Hazratganj, Mahanagar and other busy stretches. Knee-deep water submerged the road in front of the Civil Hospital in Hazratganj. Commuters faced traffic congestion, while patients visiting for treatment had to wait for the water to drain before they could return home. In Gomtinagar, waterlogging outside St Mary’s School forced parents to carry children in their arms. An 800-metre stretch from St Mary’s School to Swami Vivekanand Chowk was under water, disrupting access to schools, hospitals, shops, and homes. “Waterlogging outside the campus was a serious safety concern, especially for younger children, and that repeated complaints to the municipal corporation and the school administration have gone unanswered,” said a parent. In Tilak Nagar Kundri’s Rakabganj area, the wall of a temple in front of Amarnath Apartment collapsed, though locals confirmed there were no casualties. Waterlogging was also reported outside the high court building after even brief spells of rain. “Even a brief rain causes waterlogging on the road near the High Court, perhaps due to clogged drainage. A proper arrangement should be made to resolve the persistent issue,” said Anuj Singh, a lawyer. Several underpasses near Shaheed Path also got waterlogged, with vehicles and commuters struggling to pass through. “As the rain intensified, we immediately made all the pumping stations operative, while pumps were deployed at the spots from where the waterlogging was reported,” said an LMC official.
