Lucknow: Stating that information, education and communication (IEC) is a crucial pillar of the strategy for effective health messaging, additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Kumar Ghosh on Thursday led a day-long workshop with health officials and social partners.“IEC activities are a crucial tool for disease prevention and improving public health awareness across the state. Targeted communication strategies can ensure wider reach of health messages, promote healthy behaviour, and strengthen access to govt health services,” he said.NHM Mission director Dr Pinky Jowel said activities such as prabhat pheris, street plays and school engagement were effective in expanding immunisation coverage and called for intensifying such outreach for all health programmes. “Communication is vital for reducing neonatal, infant and maternal mortality, promoting mental health, tackling lifestyle diseases, and addressing anaemia,” she said, urging partner organisations to create innovative, multilingual strategies tailored to local needs and emerging health priorities.Participants reviewed the progress, achievements and challenges of current IEC/BCC initiatives and agreed on strengthening campaigns and action plans for the coming period in the presence of director generals of health and family welfare.
