‘Hosp ignored 3 safety notices in 18 months’

Lucknow: Though a major fire tragedy was averted, but the blaze has raised questions on the hospital’s preparedness and negligence.Despite receiving three fire safety notices in the last 18 months, the hospital allegedly failed to act on critical safety deficiencies pointed out by the fire department. According to fire department records, notices were issued on May 4, 2024, April 29 and May 30, 2025, warning the hospital authorities about inadequate fire safety infrastructure. These notices highlighted the absence of sprinkler systems, fire alarms, hose pipes and water tanks. Fire officials said repeated reminders went unheeded. “We pointed out the lack of basic firefighting measures, but the management did not take any corrective steps,” said a senior officer from the department. The hospital, which houses critical care and emergency wards, was operating without an approved fire NOC, officials confirmed. Sr DCM Kuldeep Tiwari said the fire department’s claim that three notices were issued will be verified. “A fire safety audit was conducted last year, and work worth around Rs 2.5 crore is under process. These are long-term upgrades like installing water hydrants, sprinkler systems and storage tanks across all hospital buildings,” he added.
