Lucknow: Himachal Pradesh and Punjab lifted the women’s and men’s trophies respectively in the 37th Federation Cup Handball Championship at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium on Wednesday.In the women’s final, Himachal Pradesh showcased their dominance by defeating hosts Uttar Pradesh with a decisive 33-19 scoreline. The match began with both teams displaying strong performances, but Himachal’s experience and coordination helped them secure an 18-9 lead by halftime. In the second half, Himachal maintained their aggressive play, effectively countering any comeback attempts by Uttar Pradesh. Shivani from Himachal Pradesh was the standout player, scoring eight goals and leading her team to victory. In the men’s final, Punjab claimed the championship title by overcoming Rajasthan 32-23. The first half was closely contested, with Punjab holding a narrow 13-11 lead. However, strategic play and excellent coordination in the second half allowed Punjab to extend their lead and seal a comfortable win. Jagmeet from Punjab was the top scorer with ten goals, while Rajasthan’s Rohtash put up a strong fight with eleven goals. MLC Vijay Pathak and senior vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association, Abhijit Sarkar, awarded trophies and medals to the players. Media cricket: The Lucknow Media Premier League 2025 will kick off on Dec 13 with a match between defending champions Electronic Media XI and former champions Hindustan Times at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium. The second match of the day will be played between hosts LSJA XI and Accredited Journalists XI. Eight teams have been divided into two pools, and the top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals. The semifinal matches will be played on Dec18. Teams: (Pool A) Electronic Media XI, Hindustan Times, D-AIR XI, and Dainik Jagran; (Pool B) Times of India, Combined Media XI, LSJA XI, and Accredited Journalists XI.
