Govt extends relief to 6.5L flood-hit people

Lucknow: In response to devastating floods affecting Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is spearheading extensive relief operations to assist the affected population, a govt spokesperson said.With relentless rain affecting 1,877 villages across 36 districts, the state govt has mobilized resources to provide immediate aid to nearly 6.5 lakh people. “Under the direct supervision of the CM, a robust relief framework has been established, involving continuous monitoring and on-ground inspections by over half a dozen ministers. These officials have been actively visiting flood-hit regions, distributing essential supplies, and ensuring the well-being of the victims,” the spokesperson said. Relief commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami said that the floods have affected 92 tehsils, displacing 6,42,913 people and damaging 573 houses. Financial compensation has already been provided to 465 families, and efforts are underway to assist the remaining victims. “Additionally, 84,700 cattle have been relocated to safer areas,”he said. Relief operations are supported by 2,610 boats and motorboats. To date, 67,169 food packets and 7,99,734 lunch packets have been distributed. The govt has also distributed 11,640 quintals of fodder to ensure the sustenance of cattle. To combat waterborne diseases, 5,83,758 chlorine tablets and 2,88,860 ORS packets have been provided,” he added. Currently, 475 flood shelters are housing 65,437 people, who are being regularly examined by 1,124 medical teams. In Varanasi, minister Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’ distributed relief supplies in Kotwan Kapildhara and instructed officials to maintain cleanliness in areas where floodwaters have receded. Minister of state (independent charge) for stamp and court registration fee Ravindra Jaiswal provided relief material in Sikraul ward, assuring residents of govt’s support. Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh, accompanied by Tarabganj MLA Prem Narayan Pandey, visited flood-hit areas in Gonda and Bahraich. In Fatehpur, minister Ramkesh Nishad visited the flood relief camp and distributing essential supplies. Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ distributed relief kits in Prayagraj while in Ballia transport minister Dayashankar Singh distributed ration kits.
