EOW nabs trader for Rs 17.51cr fraud in Bahraich

Lucknow: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of UP Police, on Saturday arrested an accused involved in a financial fraud of Rs 17.51 crore linked to the construction of the govt Medical College in Bahraich.The arrested person, Rajmani Verma of Sultanpur allegedly colluded with officials of the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd. (UPRNN) during the college’s construction period.Investigations revealed that Verma created fake bills, vouchers, and other documents, manipulating dates and falsifying cash vouchers, which were eventually presented as genuine financial records to siphon off govt funds.The sector SIT of the EOW conducted detailed inquiries at a petrol pump in Magrawan, Kadipur, Sultanpur, where crucial evidence and leads were secured, confirming the fraudulent transactions. Verma’s actions, the probe revealed, involved deliberate forgery and collusion, resulting in the loss of Rs 17.51 crores to the state govt.The accused was booked under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using forged documents as genuine), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The case was formally filed and the accused was presented in the Court.
