Distressed man sets self ablaze

Lucknow: A man (30) from Barabanki, allegedly distressed over police inaction in a case related to his failed love affair, set himself on fire on Vikramaditya Marg on Monday. The man, identified as Shivam Kumar Verma, sustained 35% burns. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital, but was later shifted to the trauma centre. Shivam, a resident of Barabanki, was in a relationship with a woman from his village. The woman recently refused to marry him and got engaged to his friend Saurabh Mishra which left Shivam deeply disturbed. Following a violent altercation with his friends over the issue, Shivam lodged a complaint. Though the police filed a chargesheet in the case, the accused were not arrested which reportedly angered him further. Sources said Shivam was planning to meet CM Yogi Adityanath to complain about police inaction. Around noon, he reached Vikramaditya Marg tri-section, poured kerosene over himself and set himself ablaze.
