DGP raps police chiefs of six dists for lax handling of plaints | Lucknow News
Lucknow: DGP Rajeev Krishna on Friday came down heavily on six district police chiefs over their failure to properly monitor public complaints.The action came during a statewide review meeting held via video conference. The meeting focused on five areas — public grievance redressal, law and order, cybercrime, women’s safety. Reviewing grievance data from June to Aug, the DGP noted that while 56 districts showed improvement, 20 recorded a rise in complaints. Deoria, Sambhal, Kaushambi, Badaun, Ghaziabad and Varanasi reported the sharpest increases, prompting the DGP to seek written explanations from their police chiefs. Krishna directed districts to identify police stations where complaints remain unresolved and to initiate corrective action. “Public grievances must be addressed with priority. Officers must eliminate the root causes behind recurring complaints. Field officers must adopt a focused and proactive approach,” he said. He reviewed complaints against police personnel, noting that Jhansi, Bahraich, Lucknow, Jaunpur, Kanpur and Agra had the highest number of petitions against cops. He instructed district heads to prepare lists of repeat offenders and ensure that senior officers personally verify complaints. If charges are substantiated, immediate action must follow. Reviewing law and order, he said even minor incidents must be handled with sensitivity and swiftly to prevent escalation. “Senior-most officers should intervene in potential flare-ups through dialogue and resolve matters promptly while keeping headquarters informed,” he added. On cybercrime, the DGP pointed out delays in freezing defrauded funds due to incorrect victim information. He directed cybercrime help desks to contact victims immediately and correct errors to secure timely freezing of funds. On women’s safety, the DGP ordered swift FIR registration in cases of harassment, domestic violence and related offences. He directed circle officers to personally engage with victims, ensure counselling and coordinate with One-Stop Centres and trauma support units. Trained personnel must be deployed at every police station to handle women-related complaints, he said. ADG (law and order) Amitabh Yash stressed preventive policing ahead of upcoming festivals. He asked police to conduct peace committee meetings, deploy CCTV cameras in women crime hotspots, and intensify security around schools, colleges, hostels, malls and markets. He also called for stronger monitoring of public transport, action against illegal religious conversions and cow slaughter, and a crackdown on illegal firecrackers.
