Cleanliness drive ahead of festivals

Lucknow: A special campaign will run within urban areas, as envisaged by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to strengthen cleanliness within the cities ahead of the festive season. The municipal staff members have been also asked to provide pothole-free roads, reduce traffic congestion, ensure all street lights were functional, proper drinking water arrangement done and civic amenities as per expectations of residents.Urban development department asked all local bodies to run the campaign from Sept 17 to Oct 2 and ensure similar standards during Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath Puja and other festivals. “Places where prominent pandals are set up on yearly basis and locations where large crowd gathers to soak into festivities would have to be kept clean,” said a senior officer. A daily report would have to be filed by sanitation officers and zonal officers deputed for the task. Senior officials have been directed to carry out surprise inspections and record level of cleanliness maintained. Meanwhile, focus would also be on providing dustbins in public places and carrying out strong enforcement drive against organisers of the event where a large number of people are invited.
