CK Nayudu: UP-HP match poised for thrilling finish

Lucknow: The Col CK Nayudu Trophy match between Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh is set for an exciting finish as chasing a target of 301, Uttar Pradesh were 111 for 2 at stumps on the third day at the Luhnu Cricket Ground in Bilaspur on Saturday. Going into the final day, UP need 191 runs more to win with eight wickets in hand.Resuming their second innings at 31 for 2 overnight, Himachal Pradesh added 153 runs to finish at 184 in 76 overs. In the very first over of the day, UP pacer Naman Tiwari cleaned up Ritik Kumar (4), and soon after dismissed Kabir Singh (20), reducing Himachal to 41 for 4 in 24.4 overs. After the early jolts, skipper Mridul and Vaibhav Kalta showed some resistance, adding 73 runs off 143 balls for the fifth wicket. Vaibhav scored 33 off 92 balls before being dismissed by Shubham Mishra in 48.3 overs. Mridul played a captain’s knock of 61 off 141 balls, hitting eight boundaries. Following Vaibhav’s dismissal, Mridul and Praval (25) then stitched a valuable 52-run stand off 102 balls for the seventh wicket before Mridul was caught by Swastik Chikara off Kartik Yadav and following batsmen did not contribute much as Himachal were bowled out for 184 in 76 overs. In the second innings, Uttar Pradesh made a shaky start. Opener Mohammad Aashiyan (5) was caught by Aditya Chauhan off Mridul at 14 for 1 in 4.5 overs. Swastik made 36 before being dismissed by Ritik Kumar. At the close of play, UP were 111 for 2 in 30 overs.
