City lad Naman reaps rewards of hard work | Lucknow News
Lucknow: City lad Naman Tiwari has been making headlines in the ongoing UPT20 League, taking 18 wickets for Noida Kings in nine innings at an economy of 8.48. Tiwari first came into prominence when he emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker for India, claiming 14 wickets in six matches during the Under-19 World Cup 2024.“UPT20 League is a great platform, and I am trying my best to make the most of it. I am reaping the fruit of the hard work I put in during pre-tournament practice sessions,” he said while speaking to TOI on Sunday. Talking about his experience with LSG as a net bowler, he said, “Justin Langer introduced me to Zaheer sir. I had a problem with my inswing delivery, and he helped me correct my action and run-up.” After a successful Under-19 World Cup, Naman received a call from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). “Abhishek Nayar sir was looking for a left-arm bowler. I was in Kolkata for a week and played a practice match as well. I also received a lot of appreciation from Gautam Gambhir,” he said. Naman revealed his aspiration was to “become the world’s fastest bowler,” but now he is focusing on staying fit. Regarding his goals, Naman stated, “I don’t overthink, but my immediate aim is to go step by step after the UPT20 League and focus on the domestic circuit. Since last year, I was in the Ranji Trophy squad, but unfortunately, due to injury, I couldn’t play a match. This year, I am ready for the domestic season.” When asked about his preference for cricket formats, he replied, “I am very clear, I will play every format. My father and I share the dream of playing the World Cup for India in any format. The format is just a bridge, but my dream is to wear the Indian jersey.” On his first encounter with MS Dhoni, he recalled, “When LSG was at Chepauk for practice sessions, Sameer Rizvi took me to Mahi Bhaiyya. He saw me and said, ‘I think you are left-arm pacer Naman.’ At that moment, I was shocked and frozen to learn that such a legendary player knew me.”
