Lucknow: The Mahanagar police on Friday arrested a radio cab driver for misbehaving with and threatening a female passenger under the Mission Shakti 5.0 campaign being run by the Lucknow Police for women’s safety. Acting on the complaint, the Mahanagar police, along with the Anti-Romeo team, arrested the cab driver who had misbehaved with a female passenger and taken her on a wrong route. The incident occurred on Oc 8.As per reports, on Oct 8, at around 10 pm, the victim booked a cab from Lucknow University to Sushant Golf City via the app. According to her complaint, the driver deliberately took a wrong route, and when she objected, he argued with her. Without completing the ride, he dropped her near Vivekananda Hospital, behaving indecently. From there, the victim contacted her family and later lodged a complaint at the Mahanagar Police Station on Oct 9. Upon receiving the complaint, the Mission Shakti team initiated an investigation. Using the e-challan app, the team traced the driver’s details and contact number through the vehicle registration number. The driver was contacted and called to the Mahanagar Police Station for questioning. During interrogation, the accused became aggressive. Despite the police’s attempts to calm him down, he continued to behave violently and attempted to fight with the officers. The accused, identified as Rahul Agnihotri, a resident of the PGI locality, was arrested under Sections 170, 126, and 135 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Meanwhile, the Malihabad police arrested a man on Friday for allegedly luring and kidnapping a minor girl on the pretext of marriage and establishing physical relations with her. According to reports, on Oct 7, the victim’s father lodged a complaint stating that his 16-year-old daughter had gone missing from home on Sept 21. “During the search, I found that one Nikhil Srivastava of Siddharthnagar lured my minor daughter away with the promise of marriage,” he alleged. Based on the information provided, the police verified the claims, and upon confirmation, a case under Sections 87 and 137(2) of the BNS was registered against Nikhil Srivastava. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused and recovered the girl. Based on the victim’s statement and medical examination, Sections 64(1) of the BNS, 5L/6 of the Pocso Act, and 3(2)(5) of the SC/ST Act were added to the FIR. The accused works as a mechanic in a factory in Lucknow.
