Bus catches fire on Agra–Lucknow Expressway; all passengers safe | Lucknow News
LUCKNOW: A private sleeper bus travelling on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway caught fire near the Revri toll plaza in Kakori early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 4.45am, all passengers were evacuated safely, and there were no casualties. The air-conditioned double-decker bus (registration number BR 28 P 6333), travelling from Delhi to Gonda via Lucknow, caught fire about 500 metres before the toll plaza. Police said the fire likely started in a rear wheel before spreading rapidly. Kakori police and fire units from Chowk, Alambagh, and Sarojini Nagar rushed to the scene. Chief Fire Officer Lucknow directed fire officers Pushpendra Kumar, Dharmpal Singh, and the Sarojini Nagar team, who deployed three fire tenders to control the blaze and rescue passengers. All 39 passengers were evacuated safely. Initial reports suggested there were around 70 passengers, but police later confirmed only 39 were on board. No one was injured or trapped. Firefighters also prevented the flames from reaching nearby fuel tankers. The bus driver, Jagat Singh, from Sonasi village in Ajitmal, Auraiya district, said the fire started suddenly, possibly due to a technical fault near the rear wheel. The bus owner, Shyamlal Gole, arranged a replacement bus to take passengers to their destination. The burnt vehicle was removed, and traffic on the expressway returned to normal. Police and fire officials said the situation is fully under control. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
