Built at 430 cr, premium road perishes under rain | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Road constructed for G-20 events in 2023, connecting Shaheed Path to Janeshwar Mishra Park, suffered significant damage during rains. Built at a cost of Rs 430 crore, the road now shows signs of surface disintegration, including potholes and loose pebbles. A reality check by TOI on Friday found that nearly 3.5 km of the 5-km stretch has been affected.A commuter, Rajesh Singh, said, “This is supposed to be a premium road, but after rains, it looks more like a village track.” The deteriorated condition of the road poses significant threat to the estimated 5,000 vehicles that use it every day.Locals accused it was poor construction quality that lay exposed. It has angered residents and daily commuters who rely on this route. The peeling asphalt and uneven surface are particularly dangerous for two-wheelers. Anita Verma, a local resident of Gomtinagar said, “Every time I drive on this road, I worry my two-wheeler will skid. It’s especially dangerous at night when visibility is low.”Local residents have noted that the problem wasn’t new and said temporary repairs had been ineffective, with the road breaking down again after each new spell of rain. A shop owner in the vicinity, Rakesh Gupta, highlighted need for a long-term solution, stating, “They repair it once, but after next rain, it breaks again, so authorities must ensure quality work.”In response to public outcry, Lucknow Development Authority chief engineer Avnindra Kumar Singh said tenders for new repairs had been approved and work would begin as soon as rainy season ends. “We had repaired some stretches, but during rainfall, work could not be completed,” he assured.
