Boy, 11, found murdered in Sanskrit school in Kushinagar, manager held | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The body of an 11-year-old student was found hanging on the premises of a govt-run Sanskrit school in Hata town of Kushinagar on Saturday. Police confirmed that the boy, a class VII student, was murdered and his body was hanged to make it look like a case of suicide. The school manager has been detained for questioning. The incident came to light on Saturday morning when another student found the body near a staircase. He alerted the school manager. The boy’s parents lodged a case of murder against the school management, said Kushinagar superintendent of police Santosh Mishra. Mishra said that the victim, a native of Deoria district, had been living in the school hostel for two years along with 20–25 other boys. “His post-mortem report confirmed death due to strangulation, ruling out suicide. We have begun an investigation, and action will follow based on facts that emerge,” said the SP. The boy’s father works with a private firm in Karnataka, while his grandfather serves in the CRPF and is posted in Prayagraj. “He wanted to become an astrologer. That dream will now remain unfulfilled,” said his grandmother, recalling his deep interest in astrology and religious studies. The boy told his family just a day earlier that he planned to visit home soon. Initial police inspection revealed several irregularities at the school. Its hostel lacked CCTV cameras, basic amenities, and proper rooms; many children reportedly slept on the verandah of the attached temple. Four classrooms were informally converted into hostel rooms without official sanction. “If a hostel was being operated, it should have met all prescribed standards. Children’s safety must be the first priority. A probe will be conducted,” said DIOS Shravan Kumar Gupta. A forensic team examined the crime scene on Saturday. The death has triggered outrage and raised concerns about safety and regulation in govt-run Sanskrit schools. Education officials have now ordered a full-scale inquiry into both the institution and its hostel. SP Santosh Mishra told TOI that based on the questioning of the classmates, it surfaced that around 9:30 pm, he was spotted in the corridor. “It is a clear-cut case of murder. We are probing its all aspects,” he said.
