BJP govt is using SIR to end right to vote, alleges Akhilesh | Lucknow News
Lucknow: As India celebrated the Constitution Day on Wednesday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP was using SIR to end people’s constitutional right to vote. He alleged that the BJP has inflicted the greatest damage on the Indian Constitution.Greeting the people on the Constitution Day, Akhilesh expressed hope that Babasaheb’s Constitution will only grow stronger despite repeated efforts of the BJP govts to ‘weaken’ it by causing maximum damage to it. “They (BJP) want to drop the words ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ from the Constitution because there is neither any socialist nor any secularism left in the BJP,” Akhilesh said, questioning the party’s intention behind celebrating the Constitution Day.“BJP celebrated the Constitution Day this morning. However, they are the ones who have caused the most damage to the Constitution. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s constitution gave people the right to vote. Through SIR, they want to deprive millions of people of their right to vote,” Akhilesh said. “BJP samvidhan mein diye gaye vote ke adhikar ko khatam karna chahti hai. BJP pashchim Bengal aur Uttar Pradesh mein SIR ke madhyam se vote katne ki sazish kar rahi hai (BJP wants to end people’s constitutional right to vote. BJP is conspiring to cut people’s vote through SIR in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh),” Akhilesh told reporters.Akhilesh said the Constitution has always stood as a shield for the deprived and the poor. “It is the Constitution that protects the rights of the people of India and strengthens the Indian democracy. It gives us the right to reservation and works as a shield for the neglected,” Akhilesh said, adding that he and his party was committed to protect the Constitution at all costs. He said the BJP does not believe in Baba Saheb’s Constitution.‘ECI must pay Rs 1 cr to kin of deceased BLOs’Lucknow: Responding to reports of suicides by some booth level officers deputed for SIR exercise in UP, Akhilesh Yadav demanded that the Election Commission must pay Rs 1 crore as ex gratia relief to the kin of each of the deceased BLO. “We have already demanded extension of the deadline for the SIR by three months. This will not only help people to understand the exercise and do the needful to ensure that their names are retained in the voters’ list, but will also give a breather to the BLOs who are falling prey to mounting pressures of meeting the deadline,” Akhilesh said.
