Lucknow: During the media interaction when Azam was prodded as to why no ‘big leader’ had turned up to receive him after his release from jail after around 2 years, the senior SP leader said: “I’m not a big leader. If I was, a big leader would have come to take me back. Big leaders are welcomed by big leaders; Small ones by small leaders.” He added, “You ask about my record—yes, I have been elected MLA ten times, and twice as MP, that too in succession. In India, there is hardly anyone who has won from the same constituency twelve times in a row.”
