Bhatkhande Kathak topper to take home 8 gold medals | Lucknow News
Lucknow: MPA Kathak student, Anshika Kataria, who scored 85.3% marks in Kathak discipline will be awarded eight gold medals, including the prestigious Rai Umanath Bali Megha Gold Medal, for topping in Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, in the institute’s 15th convocation on Sept 10.A total of 40 medals will be awarded — 25 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 8 bronze medals to top scorers. The university will confer a total of 140 degrees, comprising nine in undergraduate, 122 in postgraduate and nine in PhD. Out of 40 medals, 21 are won by women and 19 by men.Chief guest will be Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, former president of ICCR and vice president of research organisation Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini. Degrees will be conferred by Governor Anandiben Patel, chancellor of the university.Talking to TOI, Anshika Kataria said, “I dedicate the success to my father, who supported me relentlessly. These medals are also proof of my hard work, guidance of my gurus and unwavering support of my friends who always motivated me. My aim is to open a dance academy and provide tuition to children in remote areas who have a dream to dance but have no facility”. She is receiving 8 medals because she is the highest scorer of the universityAbhay Singh, MPA Vocal, will be awarded four medals, three gold and one bronze, for topping in his subject. Singh started singing at the age of eight. “My extended family members and relatives mocked me for choosing singing as a career, but my parents backed me all the way,” he said.Anant Sharma, MPA Bharatnatyam, has bagged two gold and one bronze medal. “I was hardpressed for money as my father passed away in 2016, so I started teaching Bharatnatyam and paid my university fees”.Shivam Kumar BPA Tabla, has won five gold medals. He said despite full family support, he faced financial crisis. Swarnima Verma, BPA Vocal, won four gold and one silver medal.Two new gold medals have been introduced this year, including Raj Bisaria gold medal for MPA (Acting), won by Devansh Prasad. Maa Uma Prabhakar gold medal for MPA (Vocal) is won by Swarnima Verma.
