Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is the world’s largest pharmaceutical consumer market, with around 5 lakh people directly connected to 1.10 lakh registered drug stores and many more indirectly involved.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted this on Sunday at the annual general meeting of the Chemists and Druggists Federation of Uttar Pradesh in Gorakhpur.He stressed that the sector carries huge responsibility, noting that providing quality medicines responsibly contributes to societal and national development. Maintaining public trust, he said, is the trade’s greatest asset. Yogi urged traders to join the campaign against counterfeit drugs and avoid selling narcotics without prescriptions. He noted the state’s strict action against counterfeit drugs in Agra and illegal narcotics elsewhere, acknowledging that such issues challenge honest shopkeepers.
