ATS, intel join probe in cracker unit blast | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and intelligence agencies have joined probe into Sunday’s powerful explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in Behta under the Gudamba police station. Officials confirmed personnel from ATS and forensic experts thoroughly examined the debris at the blast site, collecting samples to detect traces of explosive residue. “Our focus is twofold — ensuring rescue operation and identifying the precise trigger mechanism behind the explosion,” a senior intelligence officer told TOI. He said investigators are exploring the possibility that industrial-grade explosives may have been combined with firecracker material to intensify the blast.Officials confirmed that ATS personnel and forensic experts scanned the debris to collect samples and examine traces of explosive residue. “The focus is both on rescue and on identifying the exact trigger mechanism of the explosion,” a senior intelligence officer told TOI. He added that investigators are probing whether industrial-grade explosives were mixed with firecracker material.The first alert of the blast reached the fire department at 11:52 am, following which the Lucknow police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration and the fire department swung into action. “The fire brigade, ambulance, SDRF and BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) together took charge of the rescue,” said DCP, east, Shashank Singh.Chief fire officer Ankush Mittal said units from Hazratganj, Indira Nagar and Bakshi-ka-Talab were pressed into service, with reinforcement called from Barabanki to contain the blaze. “Our priority was to stop the fire from spreading to adjoining houses,” Mittal noted.Rescue teams continued combing the rubble through the evening.
