A yr after bldg collapse, no change in civic plight of Transportnagar | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Nearly a year after Transportnagar building collapse, which claimed eight lives and injured 29 people, civic issues in the area remain unresolved.Residents and business owners continue to report problems, stating that concerns about waterlogging, damaged roads, and poor sanitation have not been addressed. In some instances, transport operators have hired private workers to clean the lanes due to a lack of official response.Raj Narayan Singh, spokesperson for the Transportnagar Traders Association and Warehouse Operators’ Council, said, “We’ve submitted multiple written appeals for basic civic upkeep over the last four years, but they’ve gone unanswered.”He added that the Lucknow Development Authority earlier promised improvements, but those plans were not implemented. Established in 1981 with 1,000 plots, Transportnagar has expanded over the years. In 2020, maintenance responsibility was transferred from the LDA to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. “However, the civic conditions remain the same,” he said.Ajay Verma, a resident, said, “We’ve been raising issues like clogged drains, stagnant sewage, and waterlogging for years. But each time, LMC directs us to LDA, and LDA refers us back to LMC.”Vikas Tiwari, a local transporter, said, “During rains, the roads often get submerged, affecting daily business activities.” Shop owner Kavita Mishra said, “Potholes have damaged my scooter multiple times. We’ve submitted repair requests, but there was no progress.”Additional municipal commissioner Lalit Kumar said, “We are preparing a detailed plan for civic upgrades in the area, which will be sent to the govt for approval. Meanwhile, LMC will also try to allocate some funds to address urgent issues. But this will take a little more time to implement.”
