UP excise earns 30,658crore, sets 63K cr target this fiscal | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Generating additional income for the state coffers, the excise department has managed to collect Rs 30,658 crore till Oct 30 this year.Compared to the previous financial year, the collection was higher by Rs 4,327 crore. Excise minister Nitin Agarwal, during the latest review, said that strict vigilance needs to be maintained to ensure effective sales of liquor that is sold through retail vends. A target of Rs 63,000 crore has been given to the department for the current financial year. Since Apr 1, the sale of liquor has increased from the time composite shops were introduced in the state for the first time. Pulling up district excise officials deputed in locations where sales have been on the lower side, Agarwal directed them to carry out surveys and interact with retailers to understand what is causing lower-than-expected sales.
