‘50K stray dogs sterilised across 17 cities this year so far’

Lucknow: About 50,000 stray dogs have been sterilised across the 17 cities governed by municipal corporations during the present financial year, said the urban development department during a workshop on effective management of animals on Thursday.Also, UP is the only state in the country that has got 17 animal birth control centers (ABC centre), said officials in the workshop where veterinary welfare officers from the municipal corporations along with members of the state level monitoring committee gave a detailed presentation on dog population management measures. Principal secretary of the department, Abhijat said while 15 cities have one ABC centre, Lucknow and Ghaziabad have two such centres in order to manage the stray dogs. “The state govt has provided close to Rs 33 crore for setting up the centres and managing the population, the highest budget earmarked by any state so far,” said Abhijat.
