12-hour special drive for cleaner, greener cities | Lucknow News



Lucknow: As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the urban development department organized a 12-hour special initiative across multiple municipal corporations on Tuesday to enhance civic services, tackle local issues, and promote awareness about cleanliness and environmental conservation.In Lucknow, the municipal corporation held 32 tax collection and grievance redressal camps across all eight zones, resolving 1,365 complaints and collecting Rs 2.30 crore in a single day. Gorakhpur focused on making vending zones plastic-free by distributing cloth bags and penalising violators.Varanasi promoted household waste segregation in colonies, while Mathura-Vrindavan removed a 15-year-old garbage dump at Machhli Phatak and launched a beautification drive. Ghaziabad addressed waterlogging in key areas by cleaning decades-old drains and pipelines.Ayodhya received 20 electronic hopper tippers from Bharat Electronics Limited to strengthen door-to-door garbage collection. Shahjahanpur cleared 150 tonnes of wet waste lying for years, and Moradabad disposed of 200 metric tonnes of garbage with the help of 250 sanitation workers.Bareilly improved its drinking water supply by laying new pipelines and installing a fresh tubewell. Kanpur organised awareness activities against single-use plastic through football matches. Prayagraj carried out sanitation and anti-larva fogging in flood-hit areas.In Meerut, officials inspected the Kanha Gaushala to review cattle care facilities. Firozabad resolved 12 complaints of waterlogging within two days of rainfall, while Aligarh prepared to hand over a new sports complex and continued drainage work.The official said that such coordinated campaigns help improve civic amenities and also strengthen public awareness about cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
