11-year-old dies of suspected dengue in Chinhat

Lucknow: An 11-year-old boy died while undergoing treatment for suspected dengue at a private hospital in Chinhat on late Monday. The family alleged that the child died due to medical negligence and accused the attending doctor of being intoxicated during treatment. Police reached the hospital following the commotion and sent the body for a postmortem examination.The child, a resident of Vineet Khand in Gomtinagar, was suffering from fever for several days. Initially treated at a local clinic, he was later admitted to a private hospital on Oct 26 after developing breathing difficulties. His dengue and ELISA tests were positive, and his platelet count dropped to 22,000. Despite treatment, his condition deteriorated and he died.His elder brother alleged that the doctor treated the child under the influence of alcohol. The family lodged a police complaint demanding strict action.Chief Medical Officer Dr NB Singh said, “The case has not yet been officially recorded as a dengue death. A death audit will be conducted, and if negligence is confirmed, the hospital’s license may be revoked and legal action will be taken.”
