UP govt trains 84K cops to tackle cyber crime in UP | Lucknow News
Lucknow: With rise in cyber fraud and high-tech crime cases alongside expansion of digital transactions and online services, UP govt under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has intensified efforts to technologically empower police force to safeguard citizens and strengthen digital trust.Official data shared by govt in state Assembly shows of 84,705 police personnel received certified training in cyber crime investigation and prevention through Cyber Crime Training Portal. The aim is to equip police personnel with modern technical skills to counter cyber fraud, online scams and digital offences. In reply to a question in assembly, govt detailed phased strengthening of the cyber crime control mechanism, noting that prior to 2017, UP had only two cyber crime police stations, in Lucknow and Gautam Buddh Nagar but after Yogi govt undertook systematic expansion of cyber policing, 16 zonal cyber crime police stations were established on Feb 6, 2020, followed by 57 district-level cyber crime police stations on Dec 14, 2023.Cyber crime police stations are operational in all districts of UP, taking total number to 75. There is a cyber cell with trained staffed in every district police station of UP. Govt highlighted its focus on public awareness as key pillar of cyber crime prevention. So far, 65,966 cyber awareness programmes have been organised at public places to educate citizens about common online frauds and safe digital practices. The capacity of national cyber crime helpline 1930 expanded from 20 to 50 seats and service was now operational 24×7, officials said.
