Lucknow: Special NIA court in Lucknow on Thursday sentenced a convict to 1 year, 9 months, and 13 days imprisonment, along with a Rs 5,000 fine in a case related to a terror conspiracy of the banned Al Qaeda terrorist organisation.The court sentenced Mohammad Moid of Lucknow to the period already spent by him in prison. The sentence was pronounced by court after Moid pleaded guilty. The trial against the remaining five chargesheeted accused is continuing in the case, relating to the arrest of two Al Qaeda members in July 2021 by the UP ATS. The arrests took place on the basis of information shared by and Al Qaeda member, Umar Halmandi, who identified and recruited some persons in Lucknow for raising the terror organisation’s module in the region. He informed the police about the Al Qaeda affiliate ‘Ansaar Gajwatul Hind’– an outfit raised to carry out a series of terrorist acts before Aug 15, 2021, in various cities of UP, especially Lucknow.NIA, which took the case from the ATS, chargesheeted five accused on Jan 5, 2022, and subsequently filed a supplementary chargesheet against one more in August the same year. NIA investigations revealed that Mohammad Moid, along with two other accused, Shakeel and Mohd Mustaqeem, aided and abetted accused Minhaj and Museeruddin in procuring weapons and ammunition to promote the terror conspiracy of AGH. Minhaj was originally radicalised by accused Tawheed and Adil Nabi and in turn conspired with Museeruddin to promote terror conspiracy. The duo, Minhaj and Museeruddin, procured arms, ammunition, and explosive material with the intention to wage war against the govt of India, as per the NIA investigations in the case.
